OKEMOS - Meridian Township announced the approval and commencement of the demolition and construction of the former Burger King location on 2010 West Grand River Rd in the next two months.
This location will be turned into a new Buddy’s Pizzeria, submitted to occupy 7069 square ft. compared to the former Burger King place, which occupied 4580 square ft. of space.
Buddy’s Pizza features a sitdown-style restaurant experience that has been serving Detroit square-cut style pizza since 1946 as a part of the company’s abroad expansion plan.
Construction plans for this location underwent several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic as government agency reviews became harder to process due to the communication issues between the different development branches.
According to the Director of Community Planning and Development Tim Schmitt, he said: “Contractors got completely locked up for a period of time, and as they came of out the pandemic they were extremely busy, so scheduling contractors became very difficult, you got the price of lumber going through the roof up to levels that we have never seen as a country earlier this year, so that put a lot of projects on hold because of the financing.”
Mr. Schmitt stated that development planners are in place to begin working on a detention basin within the next few weeks.
The pond would be adjacent to the project providing the capacity for potential flooding or runoff issues during the construction process.
