MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The suspect in the arrest that brought Meridian Township police officers use of force into question, was arraigned on felony and misdemeanor charges on May 10.
After the Michigan State Police and the Ingham County Prosecutors Office reviewed video taken by a witness, they determined that the officers use of force was appropriate.
Demarion Jordan Harris, 18, allegedly fled the scene of the Meijer at the 2000 Block of Grand River Avenue, after officers responded to a retail fraud incident there on March 10.
Harris, a Lansing resident, was located, after allegedly fleeing the scene, in the Meridian Township Mall parking lot where officers attempted to make the arrest. During the attempt, the suspect assaulted a Meridian Township officer in the face.
Michigan State Police arrived on scene and assisted the officers in handcuffing the suspect.
On May 10, Harris was arraigned in the 55th District Court. His charged include resisting and obstructing a police officer, a felony, and another charge for retail fraud in the third degree, a misdemeanor.
The suspect is being held at the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office on a $5,000 cash bond.
An investigation is still on going and anyone with information can contact the Meridian Township Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through any of the Department’s social media sites.
