INGHAM COUNTY, MICHIGAN - On Tuesday, April 20, Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail provided current COVID-19 data and situation updates during a press conference over Zoom.

Vail announced that Ingham County currently has 3,909 active cases, 321 reported deaths, and 16,612 total recovered cases. Ingham County has reached its highest number of hospitalizations since the pandemic began, with over 200. The county is amid another surge in cases, but it looks like it is about to plateau.

The highest rate of cases is still in the 48823 zip code, East Lansing, and there seem to be several cases all at the same address, which typically means it could be dormitories or apartment complexes. There has been a surge in Michigan State-related cases. Still, unlike the rise in cases seen earlier in the year, where it was only MSU-related cases, there is also an increase in community cases, largely in the age groups 10-19 and 20-29.

Vale also spoke about the vaccine numbers, stating that the county has received 109,113 doses of the vaccine so far, and 109,936 Ingham County residents have at least received their first dose of the vaccine. 32,035 of the
over 65 population have been vaccinated, which is 1.2% of the seniors in

Ingham County. Ingham County is 65% of the way towards meeting their goal of vaccinating 70% of the eligible population goal.

“Our goal is a statewide goal to vaccinate 70% of your eligible population,” said Vale. Our eligible population is our 16 plus.”
