MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Martin Property Investments, Inc plans to rezone three parcels on the north side of Jolly Road, near Kansas Road. The parcels total approximately six acres, from Industrial and Single Family-Medium Density to Professional and Office zoning districts.
Many locals around the Township are worried the rezone could cause an uptick in traffic around the Jolly Road area.
A Martin Property Investments representative elaborated on the proposed rezone:
"We feel [the rezoning] is consistent with the adjacent parcels, the Township's master plan, and the character of Jolly Road...the location checks a lot of the boxes [we're] looking for...[we're expecting] the traffic on Jolly Road to maybe 10 percent...and there's no indication [the traffic] on Kansas Road would increase at all," explained a representative for Martin Property Investments.
The Meridian Township Planning Commission held a public hearing on March 8 regarding the rezoning proposal. In order for the proposal to go through, the Township Planning Commission made a recommendation in favor, which will be passed on to the Meridian Township Board. The Township Board will discuss the proposal amongst three meetings before a final decision is made.
Further discussion on the possible rezone will resume on March 22.
