Cable Operators on the Decline

MICHIGAN - The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) reported that the number of video and cable television operators in Michigan has declined by 1 to 36 from 2019 to 2020.

There has also been a decline of more than 75,000 video and cable subscribers statewide. This rapid decline of customers’ unsubscribing has been a trend for five years since 2015 and two-thirds of providers report a decrease in customers.

The MPSC has been working to resolve complaints between customers, service providers, and municipalities where most complaints consisted of billing charges, cable line issues, or equipment/service problems.

Based on the MPSC’s Status of Competition for Video Services in Michigan report, responses from a cable provider survey stated that more than 40% of video and cable TV providers invested more than 3.4 million in Michigan in 2020.
