MICHIGAN - As of February 1, 2021, the State of Michigan has administered over one million COVID-19 vaccines. Michigan now ranks 7th in the country in vaccine distribution.
“Michigan is ramping up vaccine distribution and doing everything we can to reach our goal of 50,000 shots in arms per day,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
The governor is looking to pass the MI COVID Relief Plan, which will consist of $90 million in federal funding to ramp up vaccine distribution to bring the state closer to 50,000 shots per day. The Michigan Legislature has yet to pass the plan.
“The state and our partners in health care and business will continue working day and night to reach our goal of 50,000 shots in arms per day,” said Chief Medical Executive and MDHHS Chief Deputy for Health, Dr. Joneigh Khaldun.
The governor and Dr. Khaldun are still urging residents to mask up, practice safe social distancing, and avoid indoor gatherings.
Starting January 29, 2021, the Ingham County Health Department began offering COVID-19 vaccines to younger seniors, people ages 65-69. In the coming, those in this age group may receive a link via email to schedule an appointment.
“I encourage people who are currently eligible for the vaccine to register with ICHD, Sparrow, and other health care providers,” said Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail.
To get vaccinated through ICHD must complete a registration form available on the health department’s website.
