ORIGINAL STORY: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Saturday, December 12th, police arrested a suspect after he fired a rifle while surrounded by police officers.

The altercation took place after police responded to a traffic crash involving two cars around noon at the Marsh Road and Central Park Drive intersection.

One driver, a 32-year-old male from Okemos, fled the scene with a rifle. The suspect then barricaded himself on the roof of the Chili’s restaurant near the scene.

The Ingham Regional Special Response Team assisted in efforts and the suspect fired one round during the incident.

Officers did not fire back and were able to take the suspect into custody using less lethal means with the special response team’s help.

In a press release from the Meridian Township Police Department, the department thanked the Michigan State University Police Department, the East Lansing Police Department, the Ingham County Sheriffs Department and the Michigan State Police for assisting during the incident.

This investigation is still ongoing and anyone with more information regarding the incident is requested to contact the Meridian Township Police Department.
