COVID-19 Cases Rising Rapidly in Ingham County

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail discussed rising concerns regarding COVID-19 cases just a day before Gov. Whitmer's statewide regulation goes into effect.

The test positivity rate in Ingham County has been increasing gradually. State of Michigan health officials considered a 7% positivity rate low. The positivity rate in Ingham County has reached 13% in the last few days.

Vail also reported that there are 150 cases per day on a seven day average. There are some days that there have been over 200 cases reported. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon.

There are some areas that have seen a significant increase in cases in a short period of time. Cases in Zip code 48911 have reached 9,300, which is double to the amount of cases there were a week prior.

The most cases have come from zip code 48823, which is where Michigan State University is, but the cases have been increasing on a steady level.

“What we really need folks to do is to manage some of this on their own as would happen with many other illnesses just because of the depth of what's going on,” said Vail during the Ingham County Health Department weekly media briefing Tuesday afternoon.
