MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that November 24, 2020 will be Adoption Day in Michigan. Traditionally, Adoption Day takes place the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
November is National Adoption month and each state picks a day for it to be celebrated. On Adoption Day, courts finalize adoption for children in foster care.
Michigan will celebrate Adoption Day by finalizing adoptions, holding events for families, and providing resources to citizens about the adoption process. Adoption Day in the state was created by the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in 2003.
Adoption Day events will take place at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing and in courts around the state. Berrien County and Washtenaw County will celebrate Adoption Day on Nov. 20. Cass County, Clinton County and Muskegon will celebrate Adoption Day on Nov. 24.
Courts around Michigan can request a Supreme Court Justice or Court of Appeals Judge to speak at their Adoption Day event. More information about this can be found of courts.michigan.gov
