MICHIGAN - Governor Gretchen Whitmer addressed the success of Pfizer’s analysis of a COVID-19 vaccine and her thoughts on President-Elect Joe Biden’s COVID-19 Response Team announcement.
Pfizer announced that an early analyze of their new coronavirus vaccine was 90% effective.
“This is great news for our families, our frontline workers, and our small business owners. Michigan has always been on the forefront of innovation,” said Whitmer. “I am proud to see that Pfizer, a Michigan business and one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in the world, will produce the vaccine in our great state.”
If the vaccine is certified, it will first be distributed to citizens that are at high risk and frontline workers.
Biden announced his coronavirus response team. The team is made up of various health professionals. Biden chose Dr. Vivek Murthy, Dr. David A. Kessler, Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, Dr. Luciana Borio, Dr. Zeke Emanuel, Dr. Richard Bright, Dr. Atul Gawande, Dr. Celine Gounder, Dr. Julie Morita, Dr. Michael Osterholm, Dr. Loyce Pace, Dr. Robert Rodriguez and Dr. Eric Goosby, to serve on the team.
“It is crucial that leaders across the country listen to science and the recommendations of health experts, and President-Elect Biden has made it clear that he shares that commitment,” said Whitmer. “I look forward to working closely with him and medical experts everywhere to fight this virus and save lives.”
