OKEMOS - The Meridian Township Board offered congratulations to the Okemos High School boys varsity tennis team after winning the state championship.
The tennis team had an undefeated season this year and the big win added to the list of state titles the tennis team has won for the school since 1999.
"We were very happy to be able to have a season," said varsity tennis coach, Chris Silker. "We're very grateful for the opportunity and very mindful that so many young people did not have that opportunity in the spring, or again this fall."
All four senior captains; Shrey Patel, Rohan Shah, Druv Talluri and Siddharth Nagisetty, each reached over 100 wins during their Okemos High School tennis careers.
"This season has been phenomenal, especially for us seniors," said Nagisetty. "We really stayed focused and worked hard throughout the season and went into the state champions confident, so I'm glad we got the job done."
The teams state win marked the end of Silker's 11 season career as the boys varsity tennis coach for Okemos.
"This year was a really crazy year so were just really happy that we could send our coach off with his third state title," said Druv Talluri. "It was a great way to end his great career for him so I'm really proud of our guys."
Coach Silker said it's been an honor to coach at Okemos but, he's leaving to spend more time with his young children and focusing more on a career in real estate.
"The seniors that I have this year I've been close with for a very very long time," said Silker. "It just feels like the right time to call it a year with them and their time at Okemos High School."
