HASLETT - The four-phase plan to revamp Haslett Public Schools is continuing this summer.
The Bond and Sinking Fund approved by voters in August of 2018 involves exterior and interior renovations for Haslett elementary, middle and high schools. Haslett Schools Superintendent Steve Cook presented an overview of construction in March of 2019 and Phase I began the following spring.
Phase I focused on the exterior giving the stadium new turf surfaces, a new wrought iron entrance, a renovated concession re-located at the entrance of the stadium, a picnic area to allow more options for seating and new driving routes for all schools (allowing for a smoother traffic system).
Phase II, which started last year emphasized interior renovations such as ergonomic furniture, LED adjustable lighting, window treatments, painting and flooring, new smart boards and chrome book carts for all schools.
Wilkshire Early Childhood Center also has received four new classrooms, a reinforced canopy at entrances, new lockers in hallways and classrooms, reinforced amplification systems, updated student bathrooms, new playground equipment and new seating in cafeterias.
In Phase II, the middle school and high school have received new flooring and bleachers in their main gym, updated lockers, bathrooms, furniture in the media centers, updated entrances and new chairs/tables in the cafeteria.
Construction has recently entered Phase III, which mainly focuses on converting the practice gym into a performance gym. The projected date of completion for the gym is December of 2020. Other projects within this phase include resurfacing the parking lots at the high school and Wilkshire Early Childhood Center as well as adding additional security upgrades in all Haslett Public School buildings. This phase will also include renovated media centers for the middle school and high school and will conclude at the end of the summer.
Phase IV, which is more of a sub-phase is set to take place next summer. This phase will include clean-up work to put the finishing touches at each location.
