LANSING - On Monday, April 27th, Governor Gretchen Whitmer held a press conference to explain that decisions would be made to open specific businesses in specific areas of the state according to her Michigan Safe Start Plan. Reopening will occur across eight regions and nine work categories based on criteria. The two criteria are coronavirus case counts and risk of continued spread.
The State of Michigan had 432 new cases of Coronavirus on Monday. This is the lowest daily increase since March 22nd. Best practices are being developed by Whitmer's advisory team for each work category including the type of PPE that should be worn.
Governor Whitmer also strongly encouraged residents to continue practicing social distancing. According to the data, 52.5% of cases of coronavirus are in the Detroit region, 5.9% in the Lansing region, and 15.4% in the Grand Rapids region.
Occupation specific transmission risk boils down to worker interaction, workplace characteristics, and worker type. Workplace best practices have been rapidly developed for the nine workplace types. The best practice types fall into five sections. Those five sections include access control, social distancing, sanitation/hygiene, PPE, and contact/isolation.
Finally, The Governor laid out the framework for a return to work decision. The decision to return for work will be based on the level of urgency of the pandemic risk.
Whitmer is expected to announce the remaining details of her plan this week.
