LANSING - Are you wondering how you can help your community during this difficult time?
The American Red Cross is suffering from a shortage of blood during the COVID-19 outbreak. The American Red Cross has set up multiple makeshift blood donation centers across the Lansing Area, including Playmakers sporting goods in Meridian Township, Lansing Blood Donation Center, and People's Church in Lansing. To schedule an appointment for donating blood, you can visit the Lansing Donation Center’s website.
The American Red Cross is in desperate need of blood donations. Todd Kaulman, the External Communications Manager, told HOMTV, "We are in a major blood shortage. 7,000 blood drives have been cancelled due to the coronavirus and that means 200,000 fewer blood donations’’. Kaulman also told HOMTV that his staff checks the temperature of everyone before they come into the building to protect their staff and donors.
The U.S Surgeon General says, "You can still go out and give blood. We're worried about potential blood shortages in the future. Social distancing does not have to mean social disengagement." The Red Cross is strongly urging people to set up an appointment to donate.
Again, if you’d like to donate blood, head over to the Lansing Donation Center’s website listed below.
