METRO DETROIT - With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order closing all K-12 schools across the State Of Michigan. HOMTV had the opportunity to speak with a parent who works at a preschool about what life is like now that schools are closed. She shared with HOMTV that she keeps her son busy by having dance parties, coloring, and reading stories.
In regards to learning, she tells HOMTV she sets up two workstations with her son so that they can practice handwriting, numbers, patterns, and reading to keep his brain sharp. She stated that she feels guilty about letting her son play with the neighborhood kids, but she encourages them to not touch each other and to wash their hands when they are done playing.
Her son's birthday is coming up and she told HOMTV that they had to cancel his birthday party. She was required to make some adjustments, including opening his presents at home and having video chats on the computer with all of his friends. She told us she is planning on making his birthday as special as it can be, even though they are stuck at the house.
HOMTV will continue to update you during this unprecedented time.
