EAST LANSING - Football Coach Mark Dantonio has just announced his retirement from Michigan State University according to the letter he posted on his Twitter account.
Dantonio has worked at the University for 13 years and in his words has had "amazing moments" in his career as a coach, such as the Big Ten Championship games, the playoffs, the bowl wins and milestones, graduates, and NFL opportunities and most important of all, the relationships that were made.
He has told players on many occasions that, "Michigan State is bigger than any one person. Someday there will be someone else here talking to you from this podium." That day has come.
Although Dantonio is retiring from his position as coach, he will still be involved with the University and athletic department on special projects.
Dantonio says, "It has truly been an honor and a privilege to serve as the head football coach at Michigan State University. I will forever be a Spartan."
