LANSING, MI - LANSING - The Women's March on Lansing 2020 took place at the Capitol in Downtown Lansing on Saturday January 18th.

The event began at 2:30 pm and was organized by the Blue Brigade, a local organization who wants a Democratic Candidate to defeat Donald Trump in the 2020 Election. Despite the weather, there was a huge turnout with both men and women showing support. Shannon Garrett, the founder & CEO at SMG Strategies spoke to everyone in attendance to start things off. Many issues women are facing were discussed including gender equality, anti racism, LGBT rights, immigration reform and Planned Parenthood. Other speakers included Governor Gretchen Whitmer, State Representatives Sarah Anthony (68th District) and Julie Brixie (69th District), U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, 23rd District State Senator Curtis Hertel Jr. and 8th District U.S. Representative Elissa Slotkin.

HOMTV spoke with people that attended the event. One was a resident from Grand Rapids Karen Dunnam, and she says "I like to go to protest and participate, and hope to change and make things better and have a positive impact on the world. We've been fighting this fight a very long time. Women's rights, human rights, civil right, immigrant rights, world rights, it all matters. Those of us in a position need to step up and make it happen."

A resident of East Lansing and student at Michigan State University, Natalie Spence spoke with HOMTV and says the reason she attended the event because she was passionate about women's rights, inclusivity, reproductive rights. I think it's important to stand in solidarity with all women.

Spence also says this was important to her and stating, "I myself being a women and a human person, I think it's important to be involved with the community and also support everyone else's struggles. Minority women need more representation. Black women, Asian women, Hispanic women and all women in general of course. The metoo movement is important and standing with survivors and there all issues with have work towards fixing."
