MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Saturday October 19th, the Mid-Michigan Environmental Action Council (Mid-MEAC) a non-profit environmental organization held an event to collect macroinvertebrates (aquatic insects) in the Red Cedar River.

The event was open to the public and started with the Red Cedar River at Ferguson Park on Okemos Road going to Sycamore Creek at Biggie Munn Park off Aurelius Road and with a final destination of the Red Cedar River by the Montgomery Drain by the River Trail off Kalamazoo and North Clippert Street.

Mid-MEAC Vice President David Christian said, "Where monitoring the water quality by looking at where macroinvertebrates are living in the water. Where looking at what species we find and how many of those we find. We work in teams to make the work more efficient so that we can complete each site in a timely manner at the different sites.”

Christian also said he hopes that people will learn how we look at our stream water quality and gain an understanding of how important our water in the community that we live in.
