MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On October 5th, the Friends of Historic Meridian held their Blue and Grey Event at the Meridian Historical Village.

The event gave visitors a chance to experience the Civil War Era, between 1861 to 1865, where reenactors wore blue and grey uniforms that represented what side they were on.

Doug McComas, the Captain of the 7th Michigan Company B, has worked with the 102nd US Colored Troops organizing historical reenactments in the Michigan area and nationwide.

"Most of us are here because of our love of history and I can share that with people in a way that is hopefully very interesting and unique and we certainly have a lot of young people here and so we find that they are very fascinated with the artifacts and the things that have happened and we will be demonstrating history as opposed to reading it out of a book," said McComas.

"We want people to know this happened we want to correct the astigmatism especially with what the political climate is like now," said David Dzierbicki, First Year Private, with the 7th Michigan Company B.

Meridian Historical Village Treasurer and event volunteer, Elizabeth Evangelista, enjoyed how the event educated the public and brought the community closer together.

"This reenactment is to show what things were like back then and how it was to be an army person and the community to be able to see that aspect of history."

"The Friends of Historic Meridian, is very excited that the reenactors of the Blue and Grey have decided to make this kind of their home base and to hold their reenactments here."

During the event, visitors were recruited to join the reenactment and the event concluded with a reenactment battle between the North and the South.
