MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - In July of 2019, Onyx the American Crow joined Harris Nature Center as the newest live animal resident.
HOMTV's Brandie Yates talked with Park Naturalist and Harris Nature Center Coordinator Kati Adams about Onyx and the Harris Nature Center's efforts to teach the public about birds, ecosystems and human wildlife encounters.
The Harris Nature Center is home to 20 animals of various species, including birds, turtles, amphibians and a snake. These animals are permanently injured or unable to return to the wild for another reason and have become Animal Ambassadors, helping staff to teach about nature.
You can support these animals and the education that they provide through a symbolic adoption program. The funds raised provide for the proper nutrition, housing and care of the animals. Each adoption is for one year and you will receive: an adoption certificate, color photo of the adopted animal, biography of the adopted animal and recognition on the “Frame of Fame” located in the nature building.
To find out how you can support these animals, contact the Harris Nature Center at 517.349.3866.
