MASON - With blazing temperatures recently it's important for you to keep your pets safe for the remainder of the summer.

Ingham County's Animal Control and Shelter Community Outreach Manager Kate Turner talks about some safety tips pet owners should keep in mind.

"Make sure there is extra water around, and bring them inside if it's going be too hot. Any animals that's outside needs to have to access to shade, so make sure there is a dog house shade. Someone would get them out of the sun and stay cool and comfortable," Turner said.

In order to keep your pets safe here are a couple more safety tips from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) that you should remember:

-Give them plenty of fresh clean water when it's hot or humid outdoors

-Know the symptoms of overheating in pets which include: excessive panting, difficulty breathing, drooling, increased heart rate, weakness, collapsing and more.

-Never leave your animals alone in a parked vehicle.

-Do not leave your pets unsupervised around a pool.

-And when temperatures are very hot do not let your dogs linger on hot asphalt
