MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Will Goodale was only 10 years old when a tumor was discovered growing on his brain.

Despite his parent's best efforts, the tumor proved to be too complicated and Will passed on November 2, 2015 and his family and friends were devastated to lose such a special child that meant so much to them.

According to his father, Will was one of the most helpful people that you could find. He would help his dad with the work with the homeless that he was doing.

On June 23rd, family and friends got together at the Meridian Sun Golf Course to celebrate Will's memory with the first annual Tee-Off for Will Golf Scramble. For $50 per person, attendees could take part in nine holes of golf, as well as several other activities.

Food was provided and a silent auction was held after the golfing was done. Massages were also available to anyone who wanted one.

Money raised goes towards the Will Goodale Memorial Foundation, an organization started by Will's father, which aims at providing scholarships for students wanting to enter a police academy.

"One of Will's passions was the police force," said Josh Lee Maatman, who sits on the Board of Directors for the Foundation.

It was one of Will's dreams to become a police officer and his parents chose these scholarships to honor his memory.

More than anything, the day was to remember a great son, who touched everyone around him.

One family friend, Cherri Riemer, who's son grew up with Will, remembers him as a very fun and energetic kid. "He just was a happy kid, you know, so much energy, and had the best smile in the world," she said.

Will's father Shane will continue to host events in order to preserve his son's memory because of the impact that he had, not only on his life, but everyone around him. "Will was everything to his mother and me," he said. " But come to find out after he had moved on, he was so many things to so many other people, its unbelievable."

One memory that Shane said he'll never forget is when he met with Will's former classmates and they shared memories about his son with him.

"One girl said 'I would always go out to the kickball field and would never get involved. I just didn't think I was good enough. Then one day Will came up to me and said why don't you play on my team.' She did and she said she had a blast and she played ever since," said Shane. "That's the kind of son that we had."

The next event for Will is Will's Run 5K & Fun Run on August 4th.
