LANSING - Area police agencies partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on Saturday, April 27, for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

State Police at 30 posts throughout Michigan participated in the one-day effort to encourage citizens to properly dispose of unused or expired prescription medications. All collected pills will be destroyed, no questions asked.

Prior to the event, Michigan State Police Director Joe Gasper said, "Taking a few minutes to go through your home and discard these medications is something small that can have a huge impact. The devastation caused by opioid abuse, accidental poisonings, and overdoses is real. We urge you to do all you can to help us fight this crisis."

The next Take-Back Day is set for October, but you can always drop off unused or expired prescription drugs at the Meridian Township Police Department, or other locations with a drop box for old prescription drugs, such as pharmacy's.
