Despite Weather, Residents Participate in Meridian Spring Recycling Event

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Saturday, April 27, area residents came to Chippewa Middle School for Meridian Township's Spring Recycling Event.

Despite the weather being cool and the forecast calling for colder temperature and threats of rain and snow, there was a steady stream of cars waiting to drop off a variety of items.

Meridian Township Environmental Programs Coordinator, LeRoy Harvey said, "It really depends on the event. We see a lot of fluctuation between 500-1000 cars coming through. Plus volunteers drop off stuff too. This year seems a little slower than I thought it would be, I think we're at 300-400 cars. Last spring we had a total of a thousand. But we still have a few hours left, so it'll probably be a medium sized event for us."

Residents had the opportunity to drop off paints, large metal items, electronics, packing peanuts, bicycles, and could donate furniture and small household items to Goodwill.

Meridian Township will host another recycling event in the fall.
