MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This Sunday didn't have ideal weather for a 5k, but that didn't deter runners and families from coming out to the Hippity Hop 5k.
The 5k is put on by the Child Benefit Fund of Ingham County, who are a nonprofit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of neglected and abused children, and providing funds for enriching opportunities.
The Fund was started in 1981 and provides school clothes for impoverished Ingham County youth along with helping to send kids to summer camps.
The day started with a crafts event for kids sponsored by the Home Depot, and followed with an Easter egg hunt.
At 11 am with a strong wind blowing and a police escort the race began.
About 100 people ran or walked the course to show their support.
They finished cold but smiling, happy to have overcome a tough spring 5k.
