MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - After receiving a grant in 2013 Wonch Park is is undergoing a much needed face lift.
Construction of the paved path is currently underway. The path will loop around the entire park, making it easier for parents with strollers and those who are physically handicapped.
The parks existing playground will now have a path leading up to it and the Red Cedar River will be more accessible for recreation.
"Wonch is a really good spot for fishing. And so this pathway will create a universally accessible opportunity for everyone to get to those good fishing spots," said Jane Greenway, Meridian Township Parks & Land Management Coordinator.
The master plan for the renovation of Wonch Park also includes new restroom facilities, the addition of chairs and benches and even a brand new pavilion.
Construction for the path is expected to be done shortly and other renovations are expected to begin next year.
