MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With the Primary Election approaching on August 2nd, the last day to put in a request for an absentee ballot and actual submission is approaching even quicker.

Saturday July 30th the Meridian Township Clerk's Office will be open from 8am to 2pm to issue absentee ballots. This is the last day absentee ballots can be mailed to residents.

Meradian Township Clerk, Brett Dreyfus said, "Not everybody can get an absentee ballot unfortunately there are six criteria that the state of Michigan determined the qualification to get an absentee ballot. But the most common reasons are that you are over the age of sixty, the person has a disability, or the person is not going to be at the polling location on the day of the election."

As a registered voter, you may obtain an absent voter ballot for the following reasons:

-Age 60 years old or older
-Unable to vote without assistance at the polls
-Expecting to be out of town on election day
-In jail awaiting arraignment or trial
-Unable to attend the polls due to religious reasons
-Appointed to work as an election inspector in a precinct outside of your precinct of residence.
