LANSING - The State Capitol was painted purple with a simple yet big vision on Sunday afternoon during the annual Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's.

That vision? To raise over $200,000 for Alzheimer's care, support, research, and a cure.

"It means a lot to raise money.It's becoming an epidemic, and we need more research. People are coming down and being diagnosed all the time with it and we need to stop it, as soon as we can," said Walking Participant Krin Steadman.

And that's exactly what many participants kept in mind as they endured the 91-degree heat.

"I try to raise as much money as I can and all money goes straight to the Alzheimer's Association," said young, long time fundraiser Sebastion Williams.

Organizations like The Sigma Kappa Sorority of Michigan State University, joined in to help fundraise for a cure.

"I think it's important because it's our national philanthropy, so this is our biggest event, our biggest contribution we can give back for. and personally my grandpa was affected by Alzheimer's, so I'm kind of out here for my family who isn't able to be here today, " explained Sigma Kappa member Lauren Kotsull

With many families being affected every day by Alzheimers disease, it's important to have a little hope.

The promise garden is made up of many different flowers, filled with memory and losses of loved ones, caregivers, those who support a world without Alzheimer's, and those living with Alzheimer's disease. And one day soon they hope to plant the white flower for the first survivor.

"It hasn't happened yet, but as soon as it does we're hoping to put that out there," mentioned Williams.

With the goal of the walk reached, yet another year in a row. The white flower for the first survivor remains a token of hope.
