MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Tuesday Toolmen is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides assistance for seniors and adults with disabilities or low-income families for home repairs and modifications.
Located in Lansing, and helping the tri-county area, the Tuesday Toolmen dedicate every Tuesday of the week to help those in need.
Whether high or low demand, the mission of the program is to serve the community, providing assistance for those who are in need, in order for them to safety live in the confines of their home.
In order to receive assistance, an individual has to fill out and submit an application to the organization.
There are currently 16 men who are volunteers for the program. Last year, they helped 78 homeowners and built 19 handicap ramps.
"Everything is at no cost of the individual, so when we come, you can put your money away, it's all covered by us," said Tuesday Toolmen Coordinator and Builder, Brady Calkins. "It's a great feeling for the guys, it's what they come every Tuesday for, to see the looks on the people's face. They're out there to help the community."
The non-profit organization is funded by grants and various corporations such as AARP, The City of Lansing, Ingham County, Fifth Third Bank, and many more.
This year, they were awarded $10,000 from Consumers Energy.
