UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At the Meridian Senior Center there are many opportunities to volunteer.

Peggy Frisch is a member of the senior center and enjoys teaching others one of her favorite pastimes, bridge.

Every Thursday, she volunteers to set up bridge games and helps others learn how to play.

"It's not a big job,” Frisch said. “You just get out the cards and the tallies and things like that…give out the prizes."

She is one of many volunteers at the senior center.

According to Cherie Wisdom, the activities leader, the center would not be able to function without the help of those willing to donate their time.

“The amount of volunteer hours we have in a year… it's astronomical,” Wisdom explained.

The center is always looking for extra help and Wisdom said volunteers get a lot out of the experience.

“Providing volunteer opportunities to the residents is really giving people a purpose in life and giving them a reason to continue," she said.

Wisdom welcomes anyone interested in volunteering at the senior center to contact her by simply walking in or over the phone.
