UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A fire at Winslow Mobile Home Park that resulted in the death of an elderly woman brought the discussion back to the board's attention.

The Urban Services Area provides public water and sewer to sites located within it. Currently Winslow Mobile Home Park does not receive municipal water because it lies outside of area. The nearest fire hydrant to the mobile home park is more than a mile away.

Mark Kieselback, Director of Community Planning and Development, said that while the board wants to extend the service area, there is no time frame as to when it will happen.

"It would take a while to extend the water and the sanitary sewer out to some of these areas, but this is the master plan, so it's the long-range guide," he said.

The new Urban Services Area includes the eastern edge of the township.
