LANSING - The annual Lansing Twilight gathering "friend raiser" for the Women's Caring Program was held on Tuesday night.
The event hosted by Kelly Rossman-Mckinny was attended by more than 200 people including Governor Rick Snyder. The event was arranged to support the Women's Caring Programs signature program "childcare commitment" which provides tuition assistance for low income families who may not qualify for other child care assistance. The program supports children from birth until 5 years of age.
"The whole purpose is to raise money to provide scholarships for quality licensed daycare for families who are low income, for families who are eager to go back to school, to go back to work, look for a job, etc." Rossman-Mckinny said. "And daycare really is a very expensive undertaking."
To date the Women's Caring Program has raised more than 2.2 million dollars for the program and Governor Snyder recently signed a bill providing 65 million dollars for early education funding.
