MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Last week, Meridian Township held a blood drive to support the American Red Cross. The drive was held in the Town Hall Room in the Municipal Building.
The American Red Cross blood program started in 1940 and supplies approximately 40 percent of the nations blood supply. One blood donation can save up to 3 lives.
"We've done the red cross blood drive for several years," said Carol Lowe, Meridian Township Community Planning & Development Department Secretary. " We believe its a great community service and its a good team building activity for the folks here at the Township. Giving blood saves lives."
The blood drive was considered a success as 25 pints were collected but blood donations were still down 10 percent in June nationally and are expected to be down again in July.
The next blood drive will be held in Meridian Township will be on October 24th in the same location and walk ins are welcome.
