UPDATE:
LANSING - April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and a new survey has been released just in time. According to the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, the new survey’s participants said over 42 percent of the phone survey respondents believe texting while driving is actually as dangerous as driving while intoxicated, and 33 percent felt drivers talking on cell phones were as dangerous as drunk drivers.
The study’s results continued to yield that over 80 percent of Michigan motorists feel drivers talking on cell phones are more likely to be involved in a crash, even though 56 percent admitted that this is something they do anyway.
Unfortunately, nearly ten percent of respondents admitted to either texting or sending emails while driving, and nearly twenty percent said they look at incoming texts or emails while driving.
In response to these shocking statistics, the Michigan State Police created an eye-opening public service announcement displaying how easy it is for just about anyone to be involved in a serious accident just by texting or talking on a phone while driving.
