MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Park Commission honor the late Dr. Charles “Ted” Black at noon Saturday, June 4 by renaming the former Van Atta Woods Park, “Ted Black Woods Park.”
Almost 50 people attend the ceremony. Luann Maisner, Director of Parks and recreation leads friend go through the history of Ted Black and the Park. It also includes ribbon cutting and flute playing.
The estate of Ted and Marijane Black provided a 91-acre addition to the 74-acer Van Atta Woods Park through a donation agreement in 2010. Now the Ted Black Woods Park is a living memorial honoring the life and career of Charles “Ted” Black. He made Meridian Township and this site his home while extending his professional expertise throughout Michigan and the world.
“So we are very happy that the township had decided to dedicate this park to his memory.” Kit Rich, Harris Nature Center Coordinator says.
The park is located at 4714 Van Atta Road, and the public is welcome.
