Stay Informed about Flooded Roads this
Spring

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With warm spring weather comes seasonal flooding, and flooded roads, in particular, can become dangerous.

Residents in Meridian Township drive through flooded areas and deal with flood plain issues every year in the month of April. There is important information related to water on roads that residents aren't always aware of.

Younes Ishraidi, Chief Engineer of Meridian Township commented on the matter.

"Water has a good power to it, especially flowing water. If you attempt to cross, for example, two foot of flowing water, more than likely, your car would get pushed around."

Ishraidi says that there are many different resources available to the public, including the FEMA website (www.fema.gov), which has maps of flood plain areas. The roads most likely to flood in Meridian Township are Okemos Road north of Central Park Drive, the Hillcrest area in Ottawa Hills, and Hagadorn Road, south of Bennett Road.

To be safe, it is always best to find an alternate route if you approach any moving water.
