UPDATE:
LANSING - Whether home care should be a union job or not is the decision that Michigan voters will make. Proposal 4 would amend the state constitution regarding collective bargaining rights of home heath care aides.
Supporter to Proposal 4 say, it would not only ensure Michigan consumers a safe, reliable source to find qualified health care aides but also it saves consumer's money overall.
Kerry Ebersole, campaign manager for "Keep Home Care A Safe Choice" said, "for having background checks so these folks feel confident hiring home care provider and most importantly, it saves money because home care is less expensive than nursing homes."
But Robert and Patricia Haynes, home-based caregivers, disagree with Ebersole. "It's just wrong. Proposal 4 shamelessly victimizes family members for stepping up to do the exact thing most people go to bed each night praying they will never have to do: provide continuous care for a sick child or parent in our homes."
Opponents believe proposal 4 forces thousands of family members who provide home care to their loved ones to join a union and pay dues.
Should this proposal be approved?
