MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Last year more than 33 new businesses came to Meridian Township. This number will increase with more businesses gravitating to the area.
A new addition to Meridian Township is Cravings Popcorn which opened May 30.
Owner of Cravings Popcorn Chad Jordan said, "I expect for ever single home in Meridian Township to have a bag of popcorn in their cupboard. We expect to be a strong pillar in the community."
This is Cravings second store and its newly opened store is located on Grand River Avenue near Dusty's Cellar. They sell fresh popcorn and pop and business has been thriving.
"It's an influx of a variety of factors, but the biggest is always Michigan State University. MSU continues to grow and diversify," said Meridian Township Associate Planner Peter Menser.
Vitamin Shoppe is another new addition to Meridian Township also located on Grand River Avenue next to Payless. Business was booming until numbers began to drop since the opening date in late April.
"Some people disappeared on us because they have not been coming in on a regular basis. I don't know if it has a lot to do with the college students taking off on us or what," said Ramona Biris Manager of Vitamin Shoppe.
"Greater Lansing over the last ten years has just changed completely with a influx of new businesses," said Menser.
Whole Foods is another new business expected to open before fall. They have not confirmed an opening date but the area has been cleared off and building is expected to start later this summer.
Also on the look out is Meridian Mall's new store H&M that is expected to open on June 19.
