LANSING - "A place where small voices can be heard" is the Small Talk Children Assessment Center's motto. This non-profit organization offers therapy at no cost for sexually and physically abused kids.
Executive Director and Crisis Counselor Alex Brace has been with Small Talk since day one, "it was an organization born out of a need in our community for resources and services to be provided to children who are victims of sexual and physical abuse."
This was their fourth annual auction event held at Raddison Hotel in Downtown Lansing. Brace says with being a non-profit a huge part of it is fundraising and sponsors, which is what the auction does. Prizes ranged from clothes to gift cards all the way to Disney tickets and a trip away with the Michigan State Basketball team and Coach Tom Izzo himself.
Approximately $80,000 was raised at the auction Brace says it was their best year yet.
The money will go to the services that Small Talk provides like free counseling, forensic interviews, and prevention programs for adults. With a title like "Small Talk" they are making a big difference in the community.
