MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country.
Founded by American Express in 2010, this day is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Last year, over one hundred million people came together to “Shop Small” in their communities on Small Business Saturday. It is a day to support small, local businesses and their efforts in the community.
Store Manager of Soldan’s Pet Supplies in Okemos, MI, Steve Parker noted that the store did not do any specials this year but acknowledged the prevalence of this growing event stating, “We did have a good amount of business and next year I will be doing more promotions for Small Business Saturday.”
Kellie Green-Johnson owner of Kellie's Consignments in Okemos, MI said, “I did offer a special, we emailed and text messaged the promotion. Next year I will market a little more.”
It is important to support local businesses at any time of the year and having a country-wide event shows the extent of its significance.
