MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Student Count Day is a day all public schools in Michigan tally the number of students in attendance.

After tallying is done, it turns into state funding.

There are guidelines that have to be followed in order to receive funding for a student. One guideline is if a student is not present on school count day, in order to get counted, they have to have been in attendance for at least 30 days following count day.

Another guideline is that students must be in attendance for all classroom instruction on that day.

Not only do students have to be in attendance for the spring count day, which is held the second Wednesday in February, but also for the count day in the fall which is held the first Wednesday in October.

The fall count day counts for 90% of funding while the spring count day counts for 10% of funding.

School Count Day is regulated through the State School Aid Act.
