LANSING - The Flint water crisis sent shockwaves throughout the nation and forced action in Michigan.

Kyle Guerrant, Manager of the Coordinated School Health and Safety Programs within the Michigan Department of Education, said that within his children's school there were faucets found with higher-than-allowed lead levels. Those were only discovered because of a newly sponsored program.

"A lot of districts proactively started testing their drinking water, and a lot of districts are already doing that," Guerrant said. "Our legislature appropriated resources starting next school year and made a commitment over the next three years to provide resources to reimburse schools to do that testing."

These efforts are in addition to local township and county scrutiny of water quality in extra detail.
