MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Winter blizzards and extreme chills may be gone, but potential storms may cause severe damage in Michigan during the spring and summer.
Governor Rick Snyder proclaimed April 6-12 Severe Weather Awareness Week to in order to inform residents about the potential weather related disasters during the upcoming months.
First Lieutenant Mike Johnson of the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division stated "...spring and summer is defiantly the time where you have that rapid change in climate and there is more potential for things to happen like flooding, tornadoes, or thunderstorms..."
Johnson also recommended that citizens should create safety kits with over 72 hours worth of supplies as well as research local environmental hazards in order to be fully prepared for any natural disaster.
