MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Rezoning #16060 of Summer Park Realty will be an action item on the Township Board's next meeting agenda.
The applicant is pushing to rezone 157 acres from Rural Residential to Single Family, Low Density at 2874 Lake Lansing Road which is currently Walnut Hills Country Club.
During the March 27th Planning Commission meeting, the Commission voted to recommend denial of the rezoning to the Township Board.
Some Board memebers and residents displayed dismay toward the rezoning of Walnut Hill Country Club.
"Walnut Hills has represented green space in our community for years," Trustee Patricia Herring Jackson said.
Herring said the green spaces has aided in defining the built environment in Meridian Township as well as the ecology and natural environment.
"The proposed changes will negatively impact that stability and negatively affect the stated goals and objectives of Meridian Township," Herring Jackson said.
Meridian Township resident Fred Stacks said he and his wife are unhappy about change that could come to Walnut Hills.
"We've seen our property values go up, we've seen our property values crash," Stacks said. "The last thing I need at my age is, and it is very selfish, is to pay my taxes, have a beautiful home and then find out, when there are many homes on market at a good price, that there are gonna be 400 new homes built nine doors down."
