MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Feb. 7, the Greater Lansing Chinese Association held an event to celebrate the Chinese New Year, the year of the monkey. The event was held at Meridian Mall.
Ying Beher, Attorney for Greater Lansing Chinese Association, said that this event has been going on for the past four years.
She said her favorite thing about the celebration is that she has the chance to promote Chinese culture.
"We get to introduce our culture to America, and also, in the meantime, expose our culture to the American culture, and expose our people to American culture too."
The celebration had several performances that showcased the Chinese culture. Some of the performances included a saxophone and flute Mongolian Love Song and a dance by the East Lansing Taiji Club.
The celebration was sponsored by many organizations including PNC Bank, the Chinese Association of Greater Detroit, and Meridian Township Parks & Recreation.
