MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Saturday, Sept. 18, Meridian Township held its annual Regional Electronics Recycling Day at Chippewa Middle School in Okemos.

From 9:00 am - 2:00 pm residents in the Capital Area could safely recycle their unwanted electronics. Items that could be brought were TVs, computers, monitors, printers, cords, cables, phones, VCRs, stereo equipment, typewriters and more. TVs and Monitors that were dropped off to be recycled by people who came through were generous with donations to help pay for the cost of electronics recycling. Small and large household appliances were not accepted such as batteries, smoke detectors and air conditioners. 70 volunteers came out to help varying for adults and students from college and high school students from MSU, Haslett and Okemos.

“This has been a successful day and has been a pretty smooth flow of traffic," said LeRoy Harvey, Meridian Township's Environmental Programs Coordinator. “We’ve had 400 cars that have come through so far. We really rely on volunteers to make this happen and have 2 shifts. It’s been a nice volunteer turnout today and part of that success is to see people smiling.”

Harvey is hoping to expand the recycling event next year and thanked HOMTV, the State of Michigan, volunteers and local sponsors that have partnered with Meridian for making this event possible.
