MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - For those that have driven on Central Park Drive and Okemos Road recently, probably noticed the construction for the new fire station is progressing.
As of now, Wieland-Davco Corporation has finished pouring the footings for the outside walls of the building, which will support the 1500 square foot new fire station.
The next steps will be to pour the footings to support the inside walls and to then have a contractor get the electric and plumbing work done underground.
And while a few rainy days have set construction a little behind, Raymond Severy, Director of Public Works & Engineering said they should still finish on time.
“When they start digging and going underground they have to let everything dry out before they can pour the footings,” Severy said. “But now that the footings are basically poured hopefully they can go and catch up.”
If the weather cooperates, the station should be completed by mid December— moving in and housing Meridian Township firefighters soon after.
