MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A few weeks ago, PVL Investments out of St. Louis, Missouri, approached the Township Board proposing a new assisted living center between Newton Road and M-78.
The proposed center would take up four separate parcels that, in total, stretch completely across the block between the two roads. Three of the parcels would need to be rezoned.
While most of the Board urged for the project to continue, Township Clerk Brett Dreyfus and Township Treasurer Julie Brixie held reservations about the project.
Clerk Dreyfus felt that that particular parcel of land could be put to better use, while Treasurer Brixie felt that an assisted living center for the aged should located along public transportation routes.
Trustees John Veenstra and Angela Wilson argued that little else had been done with the property, and Dave Baylis, President of PVL Investments, pointed out that they intend to provide transportation.
The Board plans on the discussing the topic at their next meeting.
