MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Some great news for homeowners in Meridian Township has recently been discovered.
Because of the Township's excellent recovery from recession and decline in property values, both commercial and residential property values have increased.
"Commercial property values increased by 4.7% and residential property values increased by 5.3%," Township Treasurer Julie Brixie stated.
For your average tax payer, inflation is still relatively low and there won't be such a big increase in taxes, however, if the average homeowner tries to re-finance or sell their property, it will have more value.
"I think overall its really good...it shows that we continue economically we continue in the recovery mode we continue to move in the right direction and that's good for Meridian Township, good for our residents, good for our taxpayers, good for everybody," Brixie mentioned.
Due to these increased property values, the Township will be receiving a .3% increase in money which is the inflationary allowance for 2016.
