MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Flushing expired or unused prescription drugs down the toilet use to be a common theme doctors and officials recommended.
But now with the drugs getting into the water systems, prescription and over the counter drug holders are being asked to do otherwise.
Now, the process is to dispose of the drugs in yellow containers that help dilute the drugs in a liquid before officials destroy them by burning them.
By properly discarding prescription and over the counter drugs, the safety of the water and person responsible for the drugs is in tact.
By properly recycling, it also prevents individuals who should not be connected to the drugs from obtaining them; including small children.
All drugs including prescription, over the counter and even vitamins should be properly recycled.
